 Distillery of the Year 2000
FRANKLIN COUNTY, KY -- Buffalo Trace Distillery, which stands as America's oldest distilling site, announces the introduction of Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.
The introduction of the new bourbon comes two months after the distillery officially changed its name from Ancient Age Distillery to Buffalo Trace Distillery.
I have been after this product ever since I tasted it at Vin Expo in Bordeaux, France in 1999. We have had a hard time getting Buffalo Trace because it is only sold in Kentucky and production is very limited at this current time. I have a special interest in getting Buffalo Trace. I have a summer place on Kentucky Lake and have spent many wonderful summers enjoying the beauty and the people of Kentucky. The Land Between The Lakes was a major place for illegal distillation. There is a large herd of buffalo on the Trace today. When I opened up the bottle for my staff they could not believe how smooth and gentle, while being so inviting to the palate, this bourbon was. I predict that this product will be a new standard of quality in the near future. THIS IS REALLY AN EXCITING PRODUCT.
Buffalo Trace is formerly the Ancient Age Distillery. It's flagship bourbon, Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey was introduced in August 1999 and currently is available only in Kentucky and at Internet Wines. Buffalo Trace Distillery stands as the oldest distilling site in the United States. Located on what was once an ancient buffalo crossing on the banks of the Kentucky River in Franklin County, the distillery is a tribute not only to fine bourbon, but also to the American bison that created paths followed by America's earliest pioneers to new lands and opportunities.
According to president Mark Brown, Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey has been developed to be the distillery's flagship bourbon and to reflect the history and heritage that are unique to Buffalo Trace Distillery, which is located on the site of an ancient buffalo crossing where the state's first settlement north of the Kentucky River was surveyed in 1773.
"A distillery with a heritage that is as old as Kentucky itself certainly deserves to be represented by a bourbon that embodies the boldness and determination of the early explorers and pioneers who sought to settle this land," Brown said. "We have taken the best barrels from the best warehouses and married them together to create a bourbon that honors the legends and heroes who blazed trails and tamed the wildernesses of a new world."
Traditionally Handcrafted
Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, handcrafted according to a time-honored tradition, begins with the finest Kentucky and Indiana corn, selected rye, and superior malted barley, which represent the product's unique mash bill.
Fresh Kentucky limestone water is used for the mashing process, imparting its uniquely rich nutrients and helping to enrich the yeast that is used for fermentation. After fermentation, Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is double distilled using a beer still and a doubler. The distilled liquid is aged in charred, virgin white oak barrels.
For Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, approximately 30-35 barrels of aged whiskey are selected from the middle floors of Warehouses C, I and K, which have proven to produce the distillery's best whiskey. Only 25-30 of these barrels are approved to be married and bottled as Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.
The result is expertly crafted bourbon that is light bronze in color with streaks of gold. Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey bears a complex aroma of vanilla, mint, and molasses. Its taste is pleasantly sweet and contains notes of brown sugar and spice that give way to oak and leather. The long and dry finish has significant depth. When enjoyed with water, flavors of toffee, dark candied fruit and anise are revealed.

The distilling tradition of the Weller family harkens back to the earliest pioneering days. Weller & Sons was famous for being the first distiller to produce Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey using "wheat" instead of "rye" in the mash bill. The Wellers believe in the importance of aging whiskey and to this day the firm of W.L. Weller and Sons sells no whiskey that is younger than seven years old.
The firm of W.L. Weller and Sons has won many awards for distilling outstanding Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. This 19 year old "Wheated" Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the finest whiskey W.L. Weller and Sons has ever made.
Malt Advocate rating: 94
Antique amber color with mature aromas rich in wood spices (vanilla, cinnamon, teaberry), and dates, with a hint of leather and sweet corn. Beginning with molasses and toffee notes, the soothing taste evolves to dried fruit, ultimately becoming spicy, with notes of vanilla and freshly ground pepper. Long smooth finish includes notes of oak and leather.
"A beautiful array of wood spices and fruit. A big, mature, and very sophisticated whiskey that is on a very short list of America's finest Bourbons. It is also one of the oldest."

The famed Sazerac Coffee House was founded in 1850 at 13 Exchange Alley, New Orleans, Louisiana. Although styled a "Coffee House", it was, in fact, a saloon. The Sazerac Coffee House gained fame as the home of the Sazerac, "America's First Cocktail."
The family-owned Sazerac Company has since become the proud owner of the original Kentucky distillery that supplied that rye whiskey to the Sazerac Coffee Housee, and is, after a 110-year absence, pleased to bring you Sazerac 18 Year Old Rye Whiskey. Sazerac 18 Year Old Straight Rye Whiskey demonstrates a sophistication and style that is second to none. A hearty whiskey with a strong body, a mellow spice and a dry sweetness that dances on the tongue, it is the only 18 year old whiskey worthy of the Sazerac name.
Amber chestnut color. Huge, spicy aroma. Very mature, with notes of oak, leather, and molasses. Enormous in every respect, from its thick, chewy texture to its unbelievably spicy and very powerful flavors. The long, warm finish is preceded by notes of mint, eucalyptus, cinnamon, vanilla, molasses, oak, leather, and lingering pepper.
"This is an amazing, truly unique whiskey. There is no rye whiskey on the market that is as old or perfectly balanced as this one. For all who can't get enough flavors and intensity in your whiskey, your search has ended."

Early Kentucky settlers created Bourbon, the true American spirit, in the late 1700s. By practice, and protected by law, no other distilled spirit adheres to standards as strict as those established for Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. And few other whiskeys can offer even a glimpse of the great whiskey making found in Eagle Rare.
Eagle Rare symbolizes the spirit of innovation - tapping the human intellect to find new ways to achieve greatness. The celebration of the human will is what compels us to realize that anything is possible if we believe in ourselves.

This deep, burnushed-gold whiskey has a somewhat fragrant nose, and the aromas develop an almost wine-like character, with hint of almonds lurking in the backdrop. The body is big and silky, and the palate is far spicier than the nose leads you to believe, but there are also violet notes here, along with a touch of caramel and a hint of old leather. The finish is very leathery, and very long.
"This whiskey earned a great rating, but lovers of previous bottlings of Eagle Rare should know that this seems to bear a completely different style - it's far greater than either the 10 or 15 year old."
