An emperor’s wine by name, and one was needed, as a tribute to the divine Julius Caesar. A writers’ wine too, as it’s a favorite with writers and certain journalits, especially at the “Canard Enchaine”, where they are thought to have invented the amusing expression. “going to take the waters in Julienas”. No doubt, they didtn’t just dip their pens in it. By giving Julienas such joyful publicity, these famous patrons made it very popular. Joy goes well in Julienas that the dynamic producers; association built a great Cellar in its houour, with some very jolly bacchanalian frescoes. And not just anywhere: in an old disused church at the heart of Julienas village. All the village people celebrate there every year on the second weekend in November: a chance to taste the newborn vintage and honour a writer who san the preises of their beloved nectar. 104 bottles of Julienas are handed over to the writer so that he can enjoy ir every Saturday and Sunday of the year!
Julienas wines are a colorful, solid, firm “autumn” wines that will reach their peak after a few years in the cellar.
A deep crimson with purpleish tints, this wine reveals complex, delicate aromas of dark berries and flowers (peonies and violets) with hints of pepper.
Clean and fruitly, well-balanced, quite full and aromatic, the wine has a fine structure. Serve with early spinr barbecues.
