The Arroyo Seco's influence can be seen in this Bordeaux-style Cabernet. It has a deep garnet color with aromas of plum, dark fruits and black cherry with spice from the oak used in its aging. This wine is medium to full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a lingering finish. In the glass, flavors of fruit compete with classic Cabernet touches of cocoa, forest floor and a pleasant earthiness. Components of Malbec, Petit Verdot and an extended maturation bring deep color, texture and complexity to the wine. Jekel Cabernet will continue to evolve in the bottle for five to seven years.
Founded in 1972 by Bill Jekel, one of the first growers to see Monterey's potential for wine excellence, Jekel Vineyards released its first vintage (a Johannesburg Riesling) in 1978 and continues to be recognized as a pioneer in Monterey winemaking.
Bill's tireless passion for winemaking and all things Monterey led to Monterey's designation as a American Viticultural Area (AVA) in 1984, literally putting Monterey on the winemaking map.
Today, Jekel is known for crafting exquisitely distinctive varietals from Riesling and Chardonnay to Cabernet and Pinot Noir.
