The latest release of Alexander Valley's proprietary Bordeaux-style blend is a lot like the man for whom the wine is named: it's bold, generous, instantly exhibiting qualities that reveal it's destined to become remarkable.
The 2003 CYRUS is unique among recent releases of their top bottle in that all five Bordeaux grapes are used in the blend. This elegant wine--which is 65 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 31 percent Merlot along with small amounts of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec--displays explosive aroms of black cherry and cassis. On the palate, the wine exhibits concentrated flavors of plum and mocha along with firm tannins.
CYRUS is released every year on March 15, the birthday of Cyrus Alexander, the 19th Century fur trader who originally lived on the property where their estate vineyards now reside.
