Deep, ripe ruby red color with fine brilliance. Concentrated body, rich in ripe almost sweet tannins. Its fragrant aroma evokes blackcurrant, tar and wood notes originating from the barrels it was aged in.

"Dark and chewy, with currant fruit followed by tobacco, grilled herb and earth notes. Slightly rustic finish. For fans of the gutsy style. Drink now through 2007. 34,000 cases made. –JM" -Rated 86, Wine Spectator

"The 2003 Medalla Real Cabernet Sauvignon was aged for 12-14 months in French oak, one-third new. Dark ruby-colored, it offers up a spicy nose with vanilla and black currant notes. Supple on the palate with plenty of sweet fruit, the wine has enough structure to evolve for 2-3 years and should drink well through 2017. When I was in Chile in January, the winery also presented the 1999 Casa Real (92 points) and the 2001 Casa Real (94 points). It seems clear that Santa Rita Casa Real is one of Chile’s benchmark wines." -Rated 88, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"For the first time in a long time there’s some herbal character to this wine, which usually pushes pure cassis and berry aromas and flavors. But this version, while zesty and healthy in terms of tannin and acidity, has some leather and leafiness to it. Still, it’s well formed and ranks as one of Chile’s benchmark upper- to medium-level Cabernets. Imported by Vineyard Brands. — M.S. (5/1/2006) " -Rated 87, Wine Enthusiast
