Eben Sadie, the mastermind behind this (fast-becoming) cult property in Swartland
also produces one of Spain’s most sought-after red wines at his property in the Priorat.
Coming from a wine background, Eben studied all over the world in his quest to learn
as much about his craft as possible before striking out on his own. In South Africa, he
worked at both very large wineries and small (in his words) “7 barrel wineries” and
learned a tremendous amount from both. 2000 was his first vintage in South Africa.

Then quite fresh and firmly built, with subtle, sharply delineated flavors of raspberry, leather, meat, tobacco and pepper nicely framed by lively acids. Decidedly French in style, and not at all overly sweet. Broadens out impressively on the back half, with the lively acids intensifying the fruit and lifting the wine's finish. This is every bit as good as the 2000, which is just beginning to unfold and still has at least five to ten years of positive development ahead of it.
