This traditional Alsatian style wine varietal is a blend of grapes from vineyards that are located in the Russian River Valley and the Southern Sonoma Valley. Both viticultural areas have deep alluvial soil and a cool climate due to the moderating influence of the Pacific Ocean and the San Pablo Bay. These cool micro climates are responsible for preserving the crisp acid and the fresh fruit character of the wine.
The 2001 vintage was one of the most temperate in recent memory with day after day of morning fog followed by warm afternoons. This gradual ripening made for a relatively calm harvest that allowed us to hand pick the grapes when they reached their peak of ripeness.
Aromas of honeysuckle, kiwi and pear are accented with an underlying note of Braeburn apple. Rich and complex flavors of pears, tropical fruits and a hint of tangerine lead to a creamy finish balanced with bright acidity.
