Dow’s is owned and managed by the fourth generation of the Symington family. Port producers since the 19th Century. The family, whose experience dates back over 100 years, supervises all the vineyards, winemaking and ageing of this wine. Dow’s owns two of the Douro’s finest Quintas, Senhora da Ribeira and Bomfim. They were acquired in 1890 and 1896, making Dow’s one of the first houses to invest in premium vineyards.
Dow’s old Tawnies are well known for their remarkable raisiny, dried fruit flavours, exquisite creamy texture and an exceptionally long, lingering finish. Dow’s 40 Year Old Tawny is made exclusively from grapes sourced at “A” classified vineyards (the highest), which include Dow’s Quinta do Bomfim and Qunita de Senhora da Ribeira, two of the very bet vineyards in the Douro valley. This enviable position is reflected in the excellent quality and consistency of the style evident in Dow’s 40 Year Old Tawny.
This Forty Year Old Port is a wine of great rarity and quality. Forty years of careful aging in oak casks have brought this wine to perfect balance. This wine represents the pinnacle of the Port blender’s art. Fine amber and tawny colour. Complex aromas of nuts, raisins and vanilla explode from the glass. On the palate hot, with predominantly flavours of dried fruits and walnuts, with good acidity and an exquisite long finish.
"A dark, concentrated wine, very impressive. But with all this concentration, there is also sweet fruit, flavors of apricots that have been bottled in spirits. This is a lovely wine, with just a hint of mature, medicinal character. Imported by Premium Port Wines, Inc. — R.V. (8/1/2006)" -Rated 93, Wine Enthusiast
