The Henry’s Drive range reflects exactly their approach to winemaking. Their fruit is carefully graded with only the very best from small sections of their vineyards being selected for Henry’s Drive. Made with minimal intervention, each are single varietal wines of great length and longevity that are a true expression of their vineyard, region and variety.

The 2006 Shiraz has a dense red colour, tinged with a violet hue. The opulent nose displays a lifted array of blueberries, black cherries and plums with layers of dark rich cocoa, pepper and a typical Padthaway mint lift.

The generosity on the palate is juicy and fleshy, with conserve-like ripe berry fruit with lashings of creaminess. It develops a silky texture with touches of toast, caramel and spice, building to a highly expressive finish that has power, persistence but still maintains elegance.

Reviews:

"Big, smooth and round, with a distinct minty note capping a mountain of ripe blackberry, prune and charred oak flavors that mingle on the forceful finish. Drink now through 2016. 10,000 cases made. –HS" -Rated 90, Wine Spectator

"The 2006 Henry’s Drive Shiraz was barrel-fermented and aged in primarily American oak, 70% new. Purple-colored, it delivers aromas of cedar, pencil lead, mulberry, boysenberry, blueberry, and a hint of mint. Fleshy and mouth-filling, it has plenty of soft tannin and an easygoing personality. It is in need of a bit more depth and concentration. Drink this tasty Shiraz over the next eight years. James Halliday says of Padthaway, “?It is on the way to nowhere. If you can pass through Coonawarra without noticing very much, you can pass through Padthaway without noticing anything at all.” Be that as it may, this is where the Longbottoms added grape growing to their other farming interests and began Henry’s Drive Vignerons. It quickly became clear that high quality grapes could be grown in Padthaway (they became the foundation of the Marquis-Philips line) and, subsequently, The Henry’s Drive, Parson’s Flat, and Pillar Box labels have gained significant traction in the USA market over the last ten years thanks to their superb price to quality ratio.
