Gallo's Sonoma County Merlot showcases the softer, fuller and richer side of Merlot. The aromas are warm and inviting with hints of crushed berries, vanilla and spice. These aromas are followed by dark and deep flavors of blackberry pie, wild berries and jam, with a lush, round mouthfeel.
Destemmed but not crushed, their merlot grapes were cold soaked for 24 hours prior to fermentation. Minimizing bitterness and allowing for complete extraction of the red wine color and flavor a combination of upright, rotary and punchdown fermenters were used. 100% of this wine completed malolactic fermentation, then was aged in French, European and American oak barrels for an average of six months to impart subtle hints of oak flavor.
