This is one of the most important red wines in Italy. It is made from Nebbiolo grapes grown on the hills of the area of Barbaresco located on the right of the river Tanaro.
The fermentation on the skins in steel tanks in the Batasiolo winery is followed with great attention for its duration of around 10 days, after which the wine is aged for a minimum of one year in oak casks, followed by a further year in the bottle.
"This is a little earthy, with berry and plum character and a cigar box undertone. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a sweet fruit aftertaste. A delicate, silky style. Best after 2011. 7,930 cases made. –JS" -Rated 88, Wine Spectator
"Batasiolo’s 2005 Barbaresco is a compact and traditional expression of Nebbiolo with some sharp or raw edges along the way. Aromas include white cherry, ginger and talc powder and the wine has an easy, compact feel with sour cherry on the close. — M.L. (4/1/2009)" -Rated 87, Wine Enthusiast
