The 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon Stag's Leap possesses the crisp, restrained, lighter-bodied style of wines from that region. Sweet black cherries intermixed with floral scents are present in the wine's aromatics. In the mouth, tar and floral characteristics combine with black fruit to give this Cabernet an enthralling, supple, approachable style. There is some tannin in the finish, and the wine is more austere than the Napa bottling, but it should drink well for 12-15 years

Wonderfully supple texture and great purity of fruit, with polished cherry, berry, sage, anise and leather notes that stay tightly focused and linger on the finish. Best from 2000 through 2006.
