The grapes from their home vineyard in Conn Valley are certified organic and farmed sustainably. In his landmark book, Bringing it to the Table, Wendell Berry offers this take on sustainability: "Sustainable agriculture is a way of farming that can be continued indefinitely because it conforms to the terms imposed upon it by the nature of the place, and the nature of the people." They plan to grow grapes on their piece of land in Conn Valley for many more years, and they're doing everything to insure that nature will allow it. This year's Merlot is 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. It's thick, almost chewy in fact, and is deliciously soft. The aroma is of wild cherries and mint. Be sure to set a few bottles of this aside for some additional bottle age.
