Haut Medoc, Bordeaux Rated 86-87 Rober Parker This is a beauty. Lovely aromas of berries, currants and cherries follow through to full-bodied palate, with juicy tannins and a long finish. Score range: 89-91 Wine Spectator Rated 89-91 The vineyard called Beaumont was born in 1824 under the impetus of its owner, Monsieur Bonnin. His successor, the Marquis d’Aligre, tripled the area under vines in fifteen years. The château itself was built in 1854 by the Bonnin brothers in the Renaissance style. The property then fell to the count of Gennes, great uncle to the Nobel Prize winner for physics in 1991. Then various owners followed among which a firm in Milan, a lieutenant-colonel from Caracas and a former Venezuelan senator related to Simon Bolivar. Between 1979 and 1986, Monsieur Bernard Soulas reconstituted the vineyard and renovated the château. The GMF insurance company bought this large estate in 1986 and three years later, in partnership with the Japanese group Suntory, created the company called “Grands Millésimes de France” which now owns it. The vineyard, all in one piece and lying entirely on lovely gravel hills, well deserves its name Beaumont (beautiful mount); it is planted with the best premium grapes. Its generous wines are distinctive for their beautiful robe, their extreme finesse, their suave bouquet and the delicacy of their taste. Therefore the recent work of replanting the vineyard (now 105 hectares), renovating and modernizing the vat-house have made it one of those best adapted to winemaking requirements, a model of its kind in the way technical innovation and Médoc tradition have been brought together.
