St Emilion, Bordeaux
A great effort from Madame Ondet, the blockbuster, opaque blue/purple-colored 2000 Chauvin boasts tannic but powerful, super-concentrated flavors. Dense and chewy, this vin de garde displays all the hallmarks of a classic claret. Although one of the finest Chauvins ever made, patience will be necessary. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2025.
Rated 90-92 Robert Parker
Château Chauvin is located on a small, sandy hill in the north-western part of the Saint-Emilion appellation, between Pomerol and La butte de Rol. In the 16th century, Château Chauvin belonged to the fiefdom of Corbin. It became an independent winegrowing estate after the French Revolution. During the 19th century, the estate was combined with Figeac and Cheval Blanc and the wine from all three vineyards was marketed under the prestigious Figeac label.
In 1981, Château Chauvin was purchased by Victor Ondet, grandfather of the present owners.
Marie-France Février and Béatrice Ondet now uphold the family tradition built up by the three preceding generations. They share the same enthusiasm and determination to maintain the quality image which keeps this Château among the elite of the Saint-Emilion Grand Crus Classés. Both sisters have the same lovely smile.
