St Emilion, Bordeaux All in finesse here. Really interesting aromas of blackberries, plums and Indian spices. Full-bodied, with super, well-integrated tannins and a long, long finish. A château to watch in the future. Score range: 92-94 Wine Spectator The 2000 Faugeres' color is a dense blue/purple, and the aromatics offer abundant quantities of sweet oak, smoke, black currants, and cherries. There is structure and tannin married with a ripe finish in this classy effort. With outstanding purity and moderate weight in the mouth, this is an intensely flavorful St.-Emilion. Rated 90-91 Robert Parker The estate of Château Faugères has been in the family of Péby Guisez since 1823. 1987 : Philippe Esquissaud leaves the estate to his cousin ( all the the wine is sold in bulk to a single trader at that time ). 1987 / 1997 : Over the next ten years, Péby and his wife Corinne do all they can to make the best possible wines. 1997 : The 95 vintage of Château Faugères is praised by the international press, Château Faugères is the "up and coming" Saint Emilion wine. 25 October 1997 : Péby Guisez dies suddenly and prematurely at the age of 52. The team he has established, led by his wife Corinne, takes over. The character of Château Faugères stems from its extraordinary site, located 6 km (4 miles) to the East of Saint-Emilion. An XVIIIth-century Chartreuse, adjoining the winery buildings, is set on the summit of a hill. From there you have a unique, 360° view . At a glance you can see the uninterrupted 55 hectares (136 acres) of vineyard, divided between two appellations : - Saint-Emilion Grand Cru ( 28 hectares or 69 acres) - Côtes de Castillon ( 27 hectares 67 acres) A south-facing vineyard on the hillside, on a terroir with great potential : clay-limestone and a soft molasse rock subsoil.
