Lalande de Pomerol Bordeaux
If Chateau Croix Saint Andre is ranked among the choice growths in this region today, it is not a question of luck, nor even on account of its terrior potential, similar in nature to that of the Pomerol plateau, nor to its grape varieties, nor even the age of its vines-few are more than 50 years old. It is truly due to the meticulous, not to say special, way this estate has been managed, intiagted by the Carayon family since 1965. The whole of the vineyard was carefully surveyed, scrutinized, gone over with a fine toothed comb.
This fastidious study enabled messrs Carayon to distinguish and determine, in relation to the nature of the soil, the grapevarieties and the age of the vines, 33 separate parcels. Each of these is cultivated and pruned in accordance with its individual requirements. Picked by hand, at optimum maturity, the grapes from each parcel are vinified independently. After long vating to extract a maximum of tannin, the wine is aged in oak barrels of which are a quarter new. However, this "Management parcel by parcel" does not stop at the winemaking stage. Each "parcel" is aged in its own batch of barrels for a length of time appropriate to the specificy and to the vintage. The assemblage of wines obtained by this method is only carried out after rigorous selection-those from vines under 15 years old are put aside- and only at the very last moment, when the wines are bottled. The wine continue to age in the cellars at the chateau for close on three years more befor being released to a faithful clientle. Among the regular customers there are several hundred personalities from the world of the arts, the sciences, medicine, the deiplomatic corps, politics and business.. It was in the context and in special honour of Arthur Rubinstein who particularly appreciated this wine, that Chateau La Croix Saint Andre with the approval of the Mme Rubinstein and her children, dedicated the 1982 vintage to the memory of this artist.
Powerful and concentrated, the wine is elegant and aristocratic. Their generous robe arrouses our senses..a privilege reserved only for great wines, tasting reveals harmony, balance and complexity
