St Estephe Bordeaux

Attractive aromas of black licorice and berries. Medium- to full-bodied, with medium tannins and a tar aftertaste. Best yet from this estate. Score range: 89-91 Wine Spectator

At the edge of Pauillac... On the soil of Saint-Estèphe, the vines of Lilian-Ladouys are to be found where the roads meet, a stone's throw from the Graves of Cos d'Estournel and the Château Lafite-Rothschild. With its elegant Directory Charterhouse, the Lilian-Ladouys Château expresses a generous idea of Médoc's durability, a close union between the crop the wine itself

The Estate of La Doys was spoken of as early as 1654, "the fiefdom" of Jacques de Bercoyan, Lord of Lafite, a magistrate in Médoc at the time. In the XVIIIth century, the Barre family bought the estate and continued to run it for over 150 years. It was they who gave the Château its identity and character. The first edition of Ferret in 1850 quoted Lilian-Ladouys as being among the best wines of the Saint-Estèphe area; the estate was clearly at its height. After the First World War Médoc suffered terribly from the ensuing crisis and the estate broke up. Restoring the links with the past, rebuilding the estate and rediscovering the wines that had made its great reputation - these were the challenges that Lilian-Ladouys set for itself in the 80s
