Margaux Bordeaux
Loads of currants and jam. Full-bodied and very thick, with big, velvety tannins. Long finish. Best PR ever. Score range: 92-94 Wine Spectator
Margaux's second wine, Pavillon Rouge de Chateau Margaux, has improved greatly. The 2000, a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, and 7% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, is a supple, delicious, flavorful effort. One of the finest Pavillons made to date, it should merit at least a 90-point score when bottled.
Rated 89-90 Robert Parker
This is the second wine of Château Margaux, produced for the first time in 1908. It comes from a selection of grapes harvested from young vines or from lots that fall one tiny step short of qualifying for the Grand Vin. Thus the quantity produced can vary widely from vintage to vintage as a function of quality.
The quality of the vintages of Pavillon Rouge is naturally linked to those of the Grand Vin. Its vinification is the same and it, too, is aged in new oak barrels. Pavillon Rouge is bottled three to four months earlier than Château Margaux and naturally matures faster than Château Margaux itself ; today the vintages 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1984 and 1987 can be drunk. The 1983, 1985, 1986 and 1991 still need a few months.
1988, 1989 and following must still be cellared.
The wines of Château Margaux age best at a temperature between 10 and 15 degrees centigrade (50 to 59 degrees Fahrenheit) and at a relative humidity of approximately 80 per cent
