Pauillac Bordeaux

Loads of coffee and berry character. Intensely grapey. Full-bodied and very tannic, yet very polished. Long, mineral and berry character. Almost classic. Best Pontet-Canet ever. Score range: 92-94 Wine SPectator

A spectacular effort from Pontet Canet. The opaque ruby/purple-colored 2000 offers a gorgeously pure, intense bouquet of blackberry liqueur, cassis, smoke, and Asian spices. The Pontet Canet displays a firm, classic feel in the mouth, high tannin, medium to full body, exceptional concentration as well as purity, and a long finish. Bravo! Anticipated maturity: 2007-2030. Rated 92-95 Robert Parker

VINEYARD COMPOSITION/VARIETAL PROFILE: 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc

HISTORY Until 1975, the famous Cruse family owned the Château Pontet-Canet and the estate was not Château bottled until 1972. In 1975, a well known Cognac merchant, Guy Tesseron purchased the Château and today his son, Alfred runs the estate. Since the sale, an immaculate tank room on two floors, an excellent chai plus large, underground cellars have been built and the general consensus is that the Tesserons have put Château Pontet-Canet back on track.

VINIFICATION Traditional wine making, egg white fining and between 18-24 months barrel aging.

STYLE Impressive purple color, ripe cassis fruit, full body and a rich intense finish.
