Pauillac Bordeaux
Les Tourelles de Longueville is the second wine of Château Pichon Longueville Baron, which is just opposite Latour and Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande (on the road between Saint Julien and Pauillac).
VINEYARD COMPOSITION/VARIETAL PROFILE:
Mostly Cabernet Sauvignon (65-75%) and Merlot depending upon the vintage. Average production is 12,000 cases per year.
HISTORY
In the 17th century, the whole of the two Châteaux Pichon-Longueville belonged to Pierre des Mesures de Rauzan, an important landowner of the Médoc whose daughter married Jacques de Pichon, Baron de Longueville. In the 19th century, the Baron Joseph de Pichon-Longueville left two-fifths of the vineyard to his son Raoul and the remaining three-fifths to his daughters (Comtesse Sophie de Pichon-Longueville; the Comtesse de Lalande; and Vicomtesse de Lavaur). As two of the sisters had no children, they left their shares to the Comtesse de Lalande.
In 1935, Baron Raoul de Pichon-Longueville sold his property to the Bouteiller family, who in turn sold it in 1987. Jean-Michel Cazes, proprietor of Château Lynch-Bages and Château Les Ormes de Pez, has served as administrator of the estate since then.
VINIFICATION
Wines are fermented in lined cement vats and aged in oak barrels for 18 months.
STYLE
Very dense and deep, with powerful fruit and good tannic structure.
