This Cabernet Sauvignon opens with classic aromas of blackberry, black cherry and plum. Notes of anise, vanilla and milk chocolate carry over to the palate and meld with the wild blackberry and cassis flavors for which Alexander Valley is known. Extended aging in superbly coopered new barrels has integrated the chewy tannins and layered nuances of cedar, espresso, and tobacco. This well-structured Cabernet has incredible fruit density and balance and will age well over the next 10 years, but has plenty of accessible ripeness to enjoy upon release.

Reviews:

"Dry and herbal, with savory dried currant, sage and dusty, loamy earth flavors that gives this a drying mouthfeel and aftertaste. Decant. Best from 2009 through 2013. 2,950 cases made. –JL" -Rated 87, Wine Spectator

"A limited cuvee, the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Winemaker’s Reserve exhibits copious quantities of spicy, toasty new oak interwoven with black currants, licorice, cedar, and bay leaves. Medium to full-bodied with sweet tannins and a good finish, drink it over the next 10-15 years." -Rated 89, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"Aged for more than two years in new oak, this 100% Cab bursts with smoky vanilla and char that currently dominate its underlying fruit. But it’s likely that time in the bottle will meld everything together. The powerful black currant, black cherry, carob and tobacco flavors, wrapped into rich, soft tannins, suggest holding at least through 2008, and the wine should develop well for a decade. — S.H. (5/1/2008)" -Rated 92, Wine Enthusiast
