Château Belgrave is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc. It is located in Saint-Laurent, and borders the Saint-Julien appellation. The beautiful 18th century hunting lodge is surrounded by a 55 hectare vineyard in a single block. Thanks to the quality of its thick gravelly soil, Belgrave was ranked as a fifth growth Haut-Médoc in the 1855 classification. Dourthe has worked very hard in recent years to make sure that this wine lives up to its prestigious reputation. Vast investments have been made in the vineyard and cellars. The success of the 1986 vintage coincides with the start of expert advice given by consulting oenologist Michel Rolland. As of 1993, Jacques Bégarie, manager of the Dourthe, estates has initiated an ambitious viticultural programme in order to limit yields and produce the ripest, healthiest, most concentrated grapes possible. The excellent reception to these innovations from the wine media confirms that Château Belgrave is truly part of the Bordeaux wine élite.
