The river Murray is to Australia what the Mississippi is to America and the Rhine is to Europe. Fed from the snow country of the Australian Alps the Murray traces a leisurely 2,000 mile course to the Southern Ocean. In its lower reaches, in the state of South Australia, the Murray winds through lush vineyards that produce 50% of Australia's wine production. The Paringa vineyards, situated near the viticultural centre of Renmark, are owned by the Hickinbotham family, whose connections with the Australian wine industry go back sixty years. This wine reflects the clean environment and combination of water, soil and sunshine that is uniquely Australian. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes the wine is a clear dark ruby, with a bouquet full of lush fruit character. The rich fruitiness continues on to the palate, with plenty of varietal character overlaying a subtle touch of oak which leads to a firm, clean finish.
