Robert Parker Review 91-94
There is very little produced, but one of the greatest second wines I have tasted
is the gorgeous 2003 Chapelle d’Ausone. Better than many Ausones made under
the old regime (before Alain Vauthier bought out his predecessor), it boasts a
dense perfume of cassis, blueberries, minerals, and violets. With an inky/purple
color, medium to full body, a tremendous lightness of being on the palate, and
a 60-second finish, this compelling 2003 will drink well for 15+ years.
Wine Spectator Review 89-91
Fabulous licorice and citrus aromas with ripe fruit aromas. Full-bodied, with
silky tannins and a very pretty finish. Firm yet silky. Serious second wine. Slightly
hollow midpalate. -- J.S.
Decanter Review 4 Stars
The second wine of Ch Ausone and a coup de coeur in 2003. A little more Merlot
than Cabernet Franc plus the press wine. Rich, dark, blueberry fruit on the nose.
Sweet attack, intense, elegant, mouthfilling fruit with firm, crunchy tannins
on the finish. Great length and tram. 2010-2020.
