This elegant beauty is 100% Chardonnay. Our 2001 Wildwood Chardonnay has aromas that suggest citrus and slightly tropical fruit supported by gentle, buttery oak. The taste clearly follows the nose. This wine has ten months of oak aging with five months of lees stirring. Only 990 cases were produced.
The Wildwood vineyard originated from cuttings Bob and Fred Kunde selected over thirty years ago - from the best Chardonnay vineyards they could find. Located along the valley floor these vines benefit from late morning fogs, well-drained soils, and cool afternoon breezes. These factors combine to produce ripe, aromatic, slightly tropical fruit flavors that blend beautifully with the butter toast and vanilla components derived during aging.
Winemaking techniques include 100% barrel fermentation in carefully selected French oak cooperage, natural yeast fermentation, frequent lees stirring or "battinage", a full malo-lactic fermentation and bottling without filtration. Similar techniques have been used for centuries to produce the world's finest Chardonnay wines.
