Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon Country: Australia Region: McLaren Vale
|
The grapes come from the Willunga district of McLaren Vale, where the heavy grey loam soils over sandstone, intermixed with black Biscay clay, combined with the maritime climate, contribute to an even ripening period and the development of rich fruit flavours and ripe tannins. Yield is around 4 tons an acre.
Vibrant brick red colour with purple hues. Nose shows Hints of nutmeg, crushed leaves and tar with lifted brambly fruit and cloves. Blackcurrant and cassis notes add freshness with the Amarone component adding chocolate and espresso characters. Rich and full-bodied palate, however, maintains a firm structure. Long chain tannin rounds out the palate, providing an elegant wine that tastes of dark berry fruits intermingled with spice and cedar.

Drink now through 2012." -Rated 89, Wine Spectator Untitled "The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon “Jester” includes 20% dried grapes in the style of Amarone. Purple-colored, it has a fragrant bouquet of black fruits, tar, and violets. This leads to a smooth-textured, layered, dense wine with enough structure to evolve for 4-6 years. It has a long, pure finish and can be enjoyed over the next 15-20 years. It is a superb value in Cabernet Sauvignon. Mitolo, which began operations in 1999, is a partnership of the Mitolo family and winemaker Ben Glaetzer. The focus is on McLaren Vale fruit from Willunga, the most southern part of the district. All of the wines below are from the 2006 vintage which Glaetzer characterizes as “?a mild growing season with no problems. It ranks with 2002 as my favorite vintage”. " -Rated 92, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate Untitled "Consulting winemaker Ben Glaetzer has fashioned a reasonably full-bodied Cab for the Mitolo family, one that combines some superripe, verging on raisined, elements with hints of tobacco and herbs. Mint, cassis and chocolate round out the palate, finishing softly tannic. Drink now–2010. — J.C. (2/1/2008)" -Rated 87, Wine Enthusiast Untitled "Bright purple. Deeply concentrated blackberry and blueberry aromas are brightened by exotic flowers, tobacco and Asian spices. Supple dark berry preserve flavors coat the palate, with gentle tannins adding support. Finishes with impressive cling and length, echoing the dark fruit and floral notes. I'd err on the side of youth and drink this over the next few years to best enjoy its flamboyant fruit." -Rated 90, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
