Flinders Bay Shiraz 2005
rws37579$24.61

Shiraz is well suited to the Karridale climate, and Flinders' Bay wines to date have achieved spectacular show results and critical acclaim, and market recognition.

The fruit is usually harvested in early April at between 13.7 and 14.2 Baume, just as the berries start to shrivel and feel velvety. Extended skin contact and agitation after crushing ensures a purple/black colour. Ageing in mainly French oak imparts flavours which complement but never dominate the fruit.

The wines exhibit lovely pepper and spice characters, with intensity and length. They drink well in their youth, and promise years of development in the cellar.

On the palate dense plum, blackberry and blueberry flavours fill the mouth, with all that pepper and spice adding further to this wines appeal. The intensity and depth of flavor in the wine is phenomenal, with all elements balanced beautifully. Wonderful drinking now, but will only get better and better over the next 5 to 8 years as it matures in the bottle.
