Producer: The estate was first documented in 966. The Schubert family purchased it in 1882 and they remain the sole
owners of its 3 vineyards: Abtsberg, Herrenberg and Bruderberg. Since 1982, Dr. Carl von Schubert has
managed the estate's vineyards and wine making according to the motto: "as much handling as necessary,
but as little as possible." It is the estate’s philosophy to use its own natural wild yeasts for fermentation. It is
the estate’s philosophy to use its own natural wild yeasts for fermentation. By strict selective harvesting the
estate achieves exceptional qualities at remarkable low yields.
Vintage: After a long winter, blossoming was later than usual, but proceeded well. A moderately warm June
followed by a hot July fostered the rapid development of the grapes, thereby making up for the slow start.
September was outstanding, but heavy rainfall in late September and early October compelled us to start
harvest very early. In order to avoid botrytis, every grape had to be selected extremely carefully. The
results: a small, but high-quality harvest.
Region /
Vineyards:
The Mosel-Saar-Ruwer region is known for the finest Riesling wines in the world. The Mosel yields the
softest, broadest and fullest wines, the Saar the steeliest and most austere, the Ruwer the most fragrant, with
a fine fruity acidity.
A total of 98 % of the estate's 82 acres (33 ha) are planted with the noble Riesling grape.
