The Dutton-Gregori vineyard continues to captivate Du Mol with its combination of aromatic fireworks and coastal fruit purity which makes this single vineyard wine such a unique offering. Harvested from the same vines as the 2004 release, yet a full month later, the cool elongated ripening conditions have amplified the wine’s blue-fruited profile and an additional two years’ vine age has deepened the palate’s texture. They made two fruit thinning passes in a growing season that was marked by a plentiful fruit set, so that by harvest the moderate crop of small-berried clusters steadily ripened to perfection under sunny warm late fall skies. The explosive aromatics which linger the entire length of the wine create tremendous energy and are a telltale sign of the vineyard’s Green Valley origins. The wine possesses great deep-flavored extract with plenty of power in reserve to allow a decade of aging potential. The supple ripe tannic frame picks up and extends the palate and is buffered by the wine’s lush seamless weight. This is a beautiful wine from a fabulous vintage for Syrah.
Purple/black color. Classic floral intensity with pungent blueberry and blackberry aromas with a sprinkling of violet and licorice. Cassis liqueur and graphite dominate the palate which is beautifully full, rich and plush, yet lively and vibrant throughout. The layers of texture build to a finish that features powerfully chewy tannins and lingering fruit sweetness. Cellar for at least two years and decant for a minimum of two hours.

Ends with a soothing mix of fruit and pleasant earthy notes. Drink now through 2014. 280 cases made. –JL" -Rated 94, Wine Spectator Untitled "The 2006 Syrah Jack Robert's Run is a 300-case cuvee that exhibits northern Rhone-like notes of roasted meats, fried bacon fat, and blue and blackberries, with hints of asphalt and pepper. It is full-bodied, opaque/purple-colored, dense, and should certainly age well for at least a decade or more.
This is one of the superstar sources of tremendous Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and increasingly, Syrah and a tiny bit of Viognier. Proprietor Kerry Murphy and his brilliant winemaker, Andy Smith, are huge fans of Burgundy and have searched out some of the coolest climate regions of the Russian River and Sonoma Coast to produce these wines, which all show impressive aging potential, although certainly the 2006s, now that they are in bottle, are decidedly less impressive wines overall than the lofty heights that were achieved in 2004, 2005, and of course, 2007. Tasting through the 2006 Chardonnays proves that DuMOL did as good a job as anyone in this vintage, but the wines seem to have lost some of their exuberance in going from barrel to bottle. The 2007s, products of a very cool growing year as well as some of the best fruit that winemaker Andy Smith has ever seen come into the winery, look terrific. About one-third of the entire Pinot Noir production from DuMOL was sold off in 2006 because of the difficulties of heat spikes and botrytis. The wines in bottle are somewhat more muted and decidedly less impressive than I had hoped they would be, and to me seem well behind the brilliant quality of the 2005s and 2004s, or the promising 2007s. When I asked the winemaker, Andy Smith, about percentages of oak and pH levels for the 2007s, he told me that most of the 2007 Pinot Noirs were in the 3.4-3.5 pH range, which is relatively low. The percentage of new oak for all the Pinots was around 40-50%. As for the Chardonnays, rarely did they exceed 60% new oak, and most of that is largely concealed by the richness of those wines." -Rated 93, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate Untitled " Glass-staining ruby. Potent aromas of cassis, cola, olive and violet. Deep, smoky dark berry flavors stain the palate, becoming sweeter with air and gaining a strong cracked pepper quality. The violet note repeats strongly on the finish, which is broad and impressively incisive." -Rated 92, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar Untitled "Its intense, wonderfully well-layered aromas of pepper, sweet oak and very deep fruit signal serious intent right from the first, and the wine meets expectations with powerful, well-extracted flavors that are long and layered and loaded with fruit and spice. It is decidedly rough and raw-edged at the moment and is a Syrah that demands upwards of a decade of age. It easily makes up in richness for what it currently needs to add by way of polish, and its keeping seems a sure bet." -Rated 91, Connoisseur's Guide to California Wines
