Intensely aromatic and refreshing, San Telmo's 2009 Torrontés entices you with delightful floral and orange peel notes. In the glass, this white wine’s pale yellow hue shows soft glimmers of green. On the palate, the crisp orange, grapefruit and tropical fruit flavors are accented with jasmine and beautifully balanced with acidity. This wine comes from the distinctive Torrentés grape, which is unique to Argentina and is the country’s most popular white varietal. Pair the delicate, dry flavors of their Torrentés with lighter fare, including smoked trout appetizers, seafood salads and grilled white fish or chicken breasts.
In the early-morning hours, we handpicked the Torrentés grapes into small bins to prevent premature crushing. At the winery, they gently pressed the whole clusters to yield a delicate wine and then cold fermented the juice in stainless steel tanks to preserve the fruit and floral character. Because this wine is best enjoyed when it’s young and fresh, it is not oak aged.
