Taste: Subtle combination of fresh hops and yeast that is improved by a bitter touch
Type of foam: Fine and snowy
Alcohol content: 8% alcohol by volume
Shelf life: To be enjoyed "young"
Also known as Chimay Triple, this beer with its typical golden colour, its slightly hazy appearance and its fine head is especially characterised by its aroma which results from an agreeable combination of fresh hops and yeast.
The beer's flavour, as sensed in the mouth, comes from the smell of hops: above all it is the fruity notes of muscat and raisins that give this beer a particularly attractive aroma.
"Bright golden-yellow. Medium-bodied. Marked bitterness. Mildly pungent floral, herbal hop aromas. Rich pale malt palate has a fruity backnote, but the dominant theme is lavish floral hops that expand on the finish and linger. This has a full blown "pale ale on steroids" character, with plenty of warmth." - Rated 90, Internet Wines and Spirits
The Chimay Triple, last-born of the Abbey, is labelled "Cinq Cents" on the 750 ml bottle. Of a golden colour, the Trappist beer combines sweet and bitter in a rare balance. The beer's aroma felt in the mouth comes from the hops' perfumes: above all, they are fruity touches of Muscat grapes and raisins, even ripe apples. This traditional Belgian beer is best savoured fresh at a temperature of from 6 to 8°C.
