VINTAGE- Due to a cooler than normal summer, harvest started later than normal. However, September and October provided the most perfect harvest weather Iíve seen in 25 years of winemaking in the Columbia Valley. The resulting wines have excellent natural acidity and deep, intense flavors.
VINEYARDS- Lewis Vineyard is perhaps the best Syrah vineyard Iíve ever worked with in Washington State. Thatís because the site is ideally suited for Syrah, and crop levels are low Ė typically less than two tons per acre. Located just outside Prosser, Lewis Vineyard ripens Syrah beautifully and produces a very concentrated, hedonistic wine.
WINEMAKING -Working in small lots, grapes picked at optimal ripeness were crushed and de-stemmed into small fermenters. They were then gently punched down 2-3 times a day to extract deep color and flavor without harsh tannins. After 8 days, the skins were pressed off, and the wine was moved to 50% new and 50% one-year-old small French oak barrels for 18 months of aging.
TASTING NOTES -This deep, opaque Syrah is ripe and rich. Dense black cherry and spice aromas introduce a mouthful of dark cherry, black currant and plum flavors. Concentrated and layered,
