This is a big, voluptuous wine with intense aromas of black currant, black berry, olive, clove and cardamom. The palate shows lovely depth and concentration, with chewy, age-worthy tannins, enlivening acidity and rich layers of cassis, black cherry chocolate, licorice and spice.
Stuhlmuller Vineyards is located at the southern edge of the Alexander Valley, where it converges with two other highly regarded Sonoma County appellations, Chalk Hill and the Russian River Valley. On its eastern edge, the 150-acre vineyard borders the Russian River. Situated in a location that is part river benchlands and part hillside, the vineyard benefits from its alluvial gravel soils and the more rocky soils of the hillside sections.
"Loads of plum, black currant and cherry notes intermixed with underbrush and earth jump from the glass of the dark ruby/purple-colored 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate. Alexander Valley Cabernet doesn’t get the respect it merits, as this wine demonstrates. Blueberry and raspberry notes are also there in this complex, exceptionally supple, round and generous Cabernet Sauvignon. It can be drunk now or cellared up to a decade.
These wines have shown consistently well in my tastings. Moreover, they represent excellent value for high quality." -Rated 90, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
