The Nielson Vineyard is a remarkable benchland site. Historically it was the first commercial vineyard in Santa Barbara County. It has the soils and climate to produce some of the most distinctive wines in the state. Nielson Chardonnay is both creamy and steely. Its ample richness is tempered by great structure and minerality.
Byron Chardonnay Nielson Vineyard is handcrafted using the gentlest winemaking techniques possible in their multi-level, gravity-flow winery. The wine was 100% barrel fermented with 100% malolactic fermentation. During this time, the barrels were hand-stirred once a week to enhance texture, complexity, and longevity.
The 2005 Chardonnay displays vivid aromas of mandarin orange, lime zest, and orange blossom, accented by hints of clove and brown sugar. The flavor profile is very creamy and rich with hints of fig, citrus, and mineral and a touch of oak. A luxurious mid-palate gives way to a lingering finish.
