The Dragonstone is Leitz's entry level wine. Though from the Drachenstein (Dragonstone) vineyard and picked at 90 Oechsle (Spätlese quality) it is declassified to a QbA. However, this has resulted in what is possibly our best value wine on the 'shelves'. It has soft sweet notes enveloping bracing and mouth-watering acidity....
Schloss Vollrads Riesling 2007
Plump and bursting with peach and floral flavors, this is soft, yet with good underlying structure. Fine harmony, with a long aftertaste of citrus and mineral.
Hoffman-Simon Piesporter Goldtropfchen Riesling Kabinett 2007
It has the structure of the 07s with the maracuja and bergamot of the site; a nice yin yang of stone and wisteria and quetsch (purple plums); good length for an entirely attractive and characteristic Mosel wine.
Schloss Saarstein Serringer Riesling Spatlese 2005
Open, with a gossamer texture and a vibrant structure. Lacy and filigreed, with lime, peach and mineral flavors gliding to an almost tart finish. Best from 2008 through 2018. 400 cases made. –BS - Rated 89, Wine Spectator The 2005 Serriger Schloss Saarstein Riesling Spatlese –dry tasting but not “trocken” at 13 grams residual sugar – represents the main harvest from the estate’s oldest vines (planted in 1943). Fermented in fuder but then moved to stainless steel to preserve freshness, this Spatlese offers intense aromas of pear, cherry and sweet herbal essences. Sleek, yet subtly creamy and decidedly slatey on the palate, it finishes with cherry, nut oil, herb, and pear skin persistence. I would hang on to this wine for a few years and then enjoy: the 2002 version – with similar winemaking and gross chemical analysis – is lovely today. - Rated 89, Robert Parker
