The spring and summer flow was characterised by two profiles inPuglia: the first one ( from March to July) with frequent and intense showers that created water reserves ; the second ( from August to September) with a hot and dry climate that enabled a very good ripening, sugar concentration and richness of the grapes.
The climatic course as a hot vintage (hot and dry) that characterised the harvest period ( August and September) didn’t create too much stress on the plants thanks to the good water reserves but favoured an optimal ripening and a very good concentration in the reds. The Primitivo grapes of S. Pietro Vernotico were picked silghtly earlier than usual , during the first week of September. Vintage 2011 can surely be considered one of the best ones up to now in terms of quality of the final product.
Selections comes from old vineyards of Primitivo, growing at saplings.
The grapes were harvested slightly over-ripe. After the crushing, the maceration was handled with rémontage and délestages for 15 days in stainless-steel tanks. During this phase the must completed its alcoholic fermentation at a temperature not higher than 26°C. After the racking the wine completed the malolactic fermentation in French and Hungarian barriques where it was aged for 10 months. It was refined in glass for 8 months before being released.
Colour: Intense ruby red.
Aroma: Fruity hints of cherry, strawberry and liquorice blend with the toasted notes as well as those of spices.
Flavour:in the mouth it is full and rich, with a good body and with a lively and pleasant tannin.
